Nerds at Breakfast

Mike and I are super nerds. Power nerds. We go to comic shops and have geeky t shirts and have two TVs in the living room so we can play different videogames at the same time. These are our fave coffee mugs, nerdy and cute. Left is a quote from Battlestar Galactica and the right is my Welcome to Nightvale cup.

Going Batty For Batman

Batman is one of my favorite super heroes. I love him, but even more than that, I love his whole Universe. I love the Robins (Dick Grayson and Damian Wayne tie for my faves), I love Harley and "Mistah J", I love Gotham. I also LOVE Batman merchandise. I love shirts and bags and hats and scarves and toys and home goods, anything I find, I want. Maybe it's because Batman is fun AND I love black, grey and bats? Batman just fits my aesthetics. So here's some Batmerch I am lusting over.

Batmobile Cookie Jar $47.60
OK, I don't make cookies, but this is a great reason to start. It's a retro Batmobile cookies jar. It is the kind of thing I never knew I needed and now I cannot live without it. I might actually order this.

Batgirl Dorm Shirt $42.00
It's a hooded batman tunic length top with a detachable cape. I would live in this. I love hoods almost as much as I love Batman.

Batman Logo Pullover Hoodie $39.60
I normally like black more than grey, but this is such a perfect shade. I also love how crisp and clean it looks, no silly faux vintage fade on the logo.
Batman Logo Watch $15.60
I don't wear a watch but I want this watch. It would be a great subtle batman addition to a normal outfit.

Hair Evolution!

I like to change my hair. I really do. Bleaching, buzzing, cutting and coloring, all of it is amazing fun. Over the last few months I have made some changes and just wanted to show them off.
The blonde was fun. I liked having something so different form the black I had for so long. The only issue? It felt very, very, normal. I could be wearing all black and a ton of eyeliner and something still felt too natural about my hair. It was never perfectly white, and think that might have been the issue.

This wine color was something custom mixed by me. I used a few Manic Panic dyes I had laying around and blended them into this lovely, dark, shade. I loved this color, but the issue was fading. It always wanted to be more...pink.
My current color and my first time using Pravana hair color. It's dark, and very, very blue. I had to rebleach my hair to get to this, but the damage wasn't too bad. Right now it's a fun change. I've never had blue hair before.

Wedding Update- Invites!

I reached another wedding milestone! Invitations are done and out, and people have begun to e-rsvp already. It's pretty exciting, and a bit worrisome just because I was a bit late getting these done. My grandma passed away after a long battle with cancer so I was too preoccupied to do much wedding planning.
I drew up this cute little graphic for the invite and then scanned it into the computer and printed it onto different colored cardstock. It's simple, cute and cartoony which is perfect for my casual/nerdy afternoon wedding. I added some small details to try and make it look a bit like a comicbook cover, since Mike and I are such big comic fans.

This is the rsvp card. Nice and simple and it has a space for a song request, which is going to help us create our wedding playlist (we didn't want a traditional DJ or band).

Movie Review- Snowpiercer

Last night I saw an amazing movie and felt like I really had to share it now while it is still out in theaters. Snow Piercer is a Korean American film based on a French graphic novel Le Transperceneige.
There is a lot of mediocre stuff that comes out in the Summer, big action movies with a ton of explosions and big names. But this movie defies all expectations. It's a work of art.

Snowpiercer is a post apocalyptic science fiction story. In an effort to combat global warming, chemicals are released into the atmosphere to try and lower the temperature. It works, but too well, and the world begins to freeze. Life dies out all over and the globe is covered in snow and ice until the last members of humanity are the passengers on a huge train that travels the globe in a never ending cycle.
The movie dark, no doubt about it. But it is also a great piece of sci fi. It has commentary on class and morality. It also shows that Chris Evans has a lot of range, more than most people would imagine. John Hurt and Tilda Swinton also give a great performance in the film.

So instead of giving money to Micheal Bay or maybe in addition to it) go treat yourself to this lovely film. Bonus, all the snow scenes are nice in the Summer.

Anime Review- Sword Art Online

School is out and I am trying to fit a little fun into my life. One way, cartoons! I like cartoons, western or not. This past week my partner and I marathoned Sword Art Online on Netflix.
Sword Art Online is a great show. it's about a bunch of people trapped inside a virtual reality videogame. If they die on the game, they die in real life, and the only way out is to beat the game.

Despite taking place in a MMORPG, battles are not the main focus of the show. Instead it focuses on the adventures of Kirito, a young gamer, and the friends he makes inside the game and the adventures they go on over the two years they spend trapped online.
Right now there are two seasons of the show up on Netflix and hopefully more episodes on the way as the anime just got greenlighted to continue on where the manga did, with more MMO fun to come.
